ODC School Program
The Arts Education Funders Collaborative (AEFC) is a group of grantmakers who work closely with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), the San Francisco Arts Commission, and the Arts Providers Alliance (APASF), to strengthen arts education in the San Francisco Unified School district.
The AEFC has supported fifteen years of programming in Arts Education professional development and research. These efforts have indirectly resulted in the creation, implementation, and success of the Arts Education Master Plan; advocacy efforts surrounding Proposition H; extensive arts related opportunities for SFUSD teachers; and the creation of four Arts Demonstration Sites. These sites received financial and technical support to establish a formidable emphasis on arts education throughout the school community.
The final project year 2007/2008, sees AEFC transition its program design to SFUSD and the Arts Commission to further arts education and arts professional development with the Inside/Out publication and website and the continued support of the San Francisco Arts Education Master Plan (AEMP).
Brushfire Painting Workshop
With the support of AEFC, APASF, a group of local nonprofit arts organizations and individual artists, is thriving. APASF provides a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among members and the arts education field at large. APASF members (click for how to become a member and list of members with links) are actively engaged in providing children and youth with educational opportunities in literary, visual, performing and music arts.
The AEMP is SFUSD’s blueprint for integrating the arts in to every student’s curriculum every class, every day. It is the product of eight months of research, interviews, surveys and focus groups by the school district, the Visual and Performing Arts Office, SFAC, AEFC, APASF, and the Proposition H Advisory Committee. The guiding principle of this plan is that all students deserve both access to and equity in arts education.
