Teaching Artist Position

Performing Arts Workshop (The Workshop), a 42-year-old Bay Area arts education organization, is seeking professional artists to teach 8 to 30 week residencies in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Workshop is hiring artists with teaching experience in pre-schools, elementary schools and/or after school programs. We need artists skilled in the following disciplines:

  • Dance & Creative Movement;
  • World Dance including Hip Hop;
  • Theatre Arts;
  • Creative Writing; and
  • Music.
Required Qualifications:
  • A demonstrated commitment to youth development;
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn the Workshop's Cycle of Artistic Inquiry;
  • Minimum 3-5 years professional teaching experience in an academic setting;
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; and
  • Excellent computer and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • B.A. degree (or equivalent experience) in Dance, Theatre Arts, Creative Writing, and/or Music;
  • Experience working with English Language Learners, youth at-risk for academic failure, including students in the Special Education and Juvenile Justice systems; and
  • Knowledge of Bay Area arts communities.
Artists will:
  • Teach in schools and community centers with diverse ethnic populations;
  • Lean the Workshop's Cycle of Artistic Inquiry
  • Participate in Artistic staff workshops, and monthly Cohort meetings;
