The Mills College Dance Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to teach in the area of choreography and theory, beginning August 2009. The position requires extensive teaching of choreography from the undergraduate to the MFA/MA graduate level as well as knowledge of multicultural approaches to dance. Choreography courses may include graduate interdisciplinary seminars, independent choreographic projects and graduate thesis research and concert production. Theory courses may include Dance Cultures and Introduction to Dance Studies. Strong abilities for teaching all levels of contemporary modern technique are required; facility in teaching ballet technique and knowledge of somatic practices is highly desired. Advisory duties and college committee service are also required. National and international artists are encouraged to apply.

Evidence of excellence in scholarship and teaching with a creative and progressive view of diverse cultural approaches to dance. Dedication to educating women. Commitment to mentoring students at undergraduate and graduate levels. MFA or equivalent professional experience required and at least three years of college or university-level teaching.
