Musician Instructor

The San Francisco Ballet Center for Dance Education is looking for an experienced musician instructor for the artist-in-residence program, Dance in Schools and Communities (DISC). The musician instructor provides musical accompaniment (percussion) and instruction for DISC residency classes in SFUSD Elementary Schools. (Please note this is not a pianist position). Schedules may vary, however there is a focused need for instructors on Tuesday and Thursday mornings beginning September 2008 and ending June 2009.
Duties: 
• Provide musical accompaniment for Dance In Schools and Communities classes. • Teach age appropriate musical concepts from a culturally diverse and historic perspective. • Participates in professional development activities under the guidance of the Director of Education. • Researches, develops exercises, combinations and appropriate activities for teaching musical concepts. • Attends professional development events and staff meetings. • Performs other duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
Requirements: 
• Expertise in a wide range of percussion instruments. • Experience in accompanying dance classes for children. • Knowledge of musical forms from a variety of cultures. • Knowledge of elementary music fundamentals. • Experience teaching a broad range of musical concepts to children
