The Asian Art Museum is seeking an experienced creative educator to develop, assemble, distribute, and maintain educational materials in print and online. The incumbent serves as the main point of contact for K-12 teachers and students, and docents, for resources about the collection, special exhibitions, and related materials that enhance teaching about Asia. He/she conducts programs to acquaint teachers with the museum's resources; and convenes teacher advisory groups to evaluate education materials. The Coordinator works closely with the School Programs Coordinator and other Education staff, as well as Publications and IT department, to develop strategies for adapting print materials for the internet.
Duties: 

Examples of Duties

1. Coordinates the preparation and production of curriculum based education materials for K-12 teachers and students; collaborates with other staff and contractors in the development and preparation of materials, including the production and packaging of materials. Hires contract writers, artists, videographers, and related resource consultants to develop materials; designs hands-on resource kits and activities for the classroom.

2. Coordinates the adaptation of education materials to online formats.

3. Serves as main point of contact for teachers, docents, and the general public on educational materials for a variety of needs including preparing for school tours and teaching about Asia in the classroom (K-12 and college).

4. Plans and implements teacher events, including lectures and workshops; handles speaker/presenter arrangements and other logistics.

5. Promotes school/teacher programs and resources to the K-12 community through outreach and teacher workshops. Establishes and maintains collaboration with other institutions, libraries, and teachers.

6. Evaluates the effectiveness of educational resources through polling teacher advisory groups and ongoing evaluations.

7. Contributes to teacher and education resource-related grant proposals and reports; maintains education resource budget; tracks loan and sale of education resources, including collecting payment and submittal of revenue; compiles statistics and prepares reports, as required.

8. Updates and maintains departmental databases of resources and related contact lists; archives and cares for education content developed by the Education department.

Compensation: $42-50K annually with excellent benefits package*

Requirements: 

Minimum Qualifications

*Bachelor's Degree in Art Education, Education, Library Science, Museum Studies, or related field; MA and/or teaching credential preferred.
*Three (3) years of related work experience coordinating and disseminating educational resource materials in a school, university library, or resource center, museum or cultural organization; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
*Knowledge of California school systems, teacher training, textbooks and other instructional materials; familiarity with instructional design of kits, slide packets, videos, online resources
*General knowledge of Asian art and culture; Asian language skills desirable
*Self-starter with proven ability to manage and independently prioritize multiple tasks while ensuring timely, high quality outcomes
*Strong organizational and administrative skills; excellent oral and written communication skills
*Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, database, desktop publishing, web content design, and video editing software preferred
*Ability to work independently and as a team member, display good judgment, problem solve, exercise tact and diplomacy at all times
*Ability to promote educational programs through the development of positive working relationships both internal and external to the Museum
*Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours.
