Rising Voices, a program of Community Works, is a paid writing and performance internship for previously incarcerated women, focusing on 18-25-year-olds. The internship provides women with a safe creative space to investigate intense experiences and provide each other with peer support, as well as to find meaningful ways of sharing their voices with the community. Rising Voices supports women in staying out of jail, encouraging ensemble members to value their power as artists and agents of change. The Program Director also facilitates Creative Expression classes in San Francisco County Jail and at the San Francisco Sheriff's Department's Women's Reentry Center, where Rising Voices is based.
Duties: 

• Recruiting Rising Voices participants.
• Facilitating twice-weekly Rising Voices workshops culminating in public performances.
• Developing opportunities for Rising Voices to share work with the community via performances and publication of writing.
• Facilitating weekly Creative Writing classes with women in San Francisco County Jail.
• Teach small group Creative Expression class to formerly incarcerated women, some of whom are court-mandated, at the Women's Reentry
•Center.
• Developing of curricula for all classes and workshops.
• Participating in activities at the Women's Reentry Center and meetings with case managers and other staff.

Program Director position is 24 hours a week, plus benefits.

Requirements: 
CW seeks a professional, working artist, particularly with a writing and theater background. Community Works is committed to hiring artists who reflect the populations we serve.

Other qualifications:
• Strong skills in organization, facilitation and supporting personal development.
• Extensive experience developing and implementing arts-based curriculum in community-based settings and/or jails.
• Knowledge and understanding of issues faced by incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women.
• Working knowledge of social justice and restorative justice principles.
